Once a staple of the Lake George tourism economy, the cabin colony is alive and well on Lake George’s old east side. And with it, a relaxed, affordable. pet-friendly vacation.
Erin Joyce and Tyler Wojcik opened Adirondack Lakeside Getaways in 2023, after purchasing the East Cove restaurant and its bungalows in 2022.
The couple have leased the restaurant but chose to renovate and manage the bungalows themselves, reimagining the collection of post-World War II cabins as a laid-back resort for the 21st century.
Both in their early thirties, married in November, 2025, Erin and Tyler did not envision their enterprise as something geared specifically to creatives and young professionals from New York, though it is certainly attracting them, just as similar places in the Catskills do.
“We do get a lot of young couples and families. We’re seeing people shift from going to Montauk to coming here, because it’s a jeans and t-shirt kind of experience. You can be yourself,” the couple said in a recent interview, conducted on the deck of one of the cabins.
But, they added, “this place is for anyone who wants to enjoy it. All we ask is that they love Lake George as much as we do.”
Erin’s family has been coming to Lake George every summer since she was a child. And since she and Tyler began dating when they were 15 – his Lake George connections are almost as deep.
“Lake George is the main attraction; we’re just a part of that,” Erin acknowledges.
Nevertheless, Adirondack Lakeside Getaways is contributing something unique to the hospitality mix.
“When people come here, we want them to be able drop their stuff and feel as though this is their home. That’s all they might want from a vacation. But we try to offer a little something extra, things we might want if we were on vacation,” said Erin.
According to Tyler, that personal touch may include texts to inquire if anything might be needed, advice about what to bring with them, or recommendations based on their own favorite places to go and things to do. Those lists can be especially helpful since roughly half their guests have never heard of Lake George, let alone spent time here.
The proximity of Lake George Village’s beaches, attractions, shops and restaurants is no doubt a part of Adirondack Lakeside Getaway’s appeal, but so, too, is the resort’s protective buffers.
“The feedback we’ve received is that people are very happy to have access to the Village’s amenities, but they also enjoy a reprieve from the crowds. They can come back to their own space and decompress, with their families, in their cabins, around their outdoor firepits,” said Erin.
The fathers of both Erin and Tyler are retired New York City Firefighters who answered the call on 9/11, and first responders occupy a special place in their hearts.
“We offer military and frontline families 10% discounts. They’re putting themselves on the line, so we wanted to be able to do something in return, however small. They’re the superheroes,” said Erin.
Even as they maintain full-time jobs in New York – Erin as a research scientist, Tyler with a job in finance – the couple will continue to operate Adirondack Lakeside Getaways as a year-round resort, shifting in the off-season to accommodate skiers, Winter Carnival visitors and those seeking a Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas or New Year’s holiday away from home.
(Through the wonders of the internet, a family from Sweden found the resort and flew here to spend its Christmas on Lake George.)
“We’re the booking team, the check in team, the customer-service team, the maintenance team. It’s just Erin and myself,” said Tyler.
