Lake George Island campers now have an organization to represent their interests and concerns, says Cindy Baxter, a New Hampshire resident who’s been camping on the islands for decades.
Baxter is one of the organizers of the Lake George Island Campers Association, which will lobby against a plan proposed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to discontinue the collection of garbage and recyclables from the islands.
The group has a website (www.lgica.org.) and a facebook page. The group was established in July.
According to its website, the group’s mission is to “promote responsible camping and island stewardship to ensure future generations will be able to enjoy the same scenic vistas and crystal clear water. The Lake George islands are a national treasure, and we want to connect campers who agree.”
