The FUND and Waterkeeper have launched a major new effort focused on property management that protects the water quality of Lake George. This campaign will reach out to property owners and residents around the lake to provide sound information about property management that controls stormwater and prevents other negative impacts to thelake’s water quality.
Recommended management practices include use of rain gardens to control stormwater on site, construction or expansion of stream buffers and shoreline buffers, stopping the use of fertilizers and pesticides, landscaping with native species, regular maintenance and good designs for septic systems, among many others.
The FUND and Waterkeeper started this education and outreach campaign with new full-page ads in the Lake George Mirror. This effort will continue throughout 2010. For more information check the FUND’s website and backpage of the Lake George Mirror for further updates on activities.
“There are many things that individual property owners can do to manage their lands in a way that protects the water quality of Lake George. We look forward to working with landowners and residents throughout
the watershed to improve property management that helps protect the water quality of Lake George” said Peter Bauer, Executive Director of the FUND for Lake George.
